Beginning with stories and free play, children can be given plenty of opportunities to manipulate the shapes and make designs of their choice. By moving, shifting, rotating or flipping the different shapes while making the designs of their imagination, children develop their shape sense as well. These activities also provide context for doing counting meaningfully.

At a later stage, these geometric shapes lend themselves to explorations of angles, patterns and tessellations as well.
